Vitamix container compatibility depends on the family your motor base belongs to. Ascent Series blenders need Ascent SELF-DETECT containers, classic jugs suit models such as the Explorian E310, Aspire and Professional Series, and commercial machines take the Advance or commercial jugs listed for their model. Many Blendtec jar pages name broad groups, such as all Blendtec home blenders, but check the model on your motor base before you order.
Whether you need a spare blender jug for a busy café or a second container at home, this guide is built from the compatibility notes on our own product pages. We've been in the blending business for over 30 years, and where a page doesn't name your model, we'd rather you ask us than guess.
First, find your model on the motor base
Unplug the blender and look for the label on the motor base. Note the model name and, if it's shown, the model number. Then:
-
Vitamix for home: the Ascent models we stock are the A2300i, A2500i and A3500i. The Explorian Series includes the E310 and E320.
-
Vitamix for business: many of our commercial jug pages list model numbers, so match the number on your label. For example, VM50031 is The Quiet One, VM10198 is the Drink Machine Advance and VM10089 is the Vita-Prep 3.
-
Blendtec: note the model name, such as Classic 575 or Stealth 885, and whether it's a home or commercial model.

Which Vitamix container fits my blender?
Vitamix jugs fall into three main families. Buy from the family that matches your motor base.
Ascent Series: SELF-DETECT containers
With SELF-DETECT technology, an Ascent motor base recognises the container size and adjusts its program settings to suit. Every Ascent container page says the same thing: it "can be used only with Vitamix Ascent Series Blenders." They also have an interlock lid, so the blade stops spinning if the lid is removed mid-blend.
Each Ascent blender we stock comes with a Low-Profile 2.0-litre container and tamper. A second Ascent 2L Low Profile Container is designed for six to twelve servings per batch. The Ascent 1.4L Wet Blade Container is better suited than the 2L for ice creams, nut butters, dips and acai bowls. The Ascent 1.4L Dry Grains Container grinds grains, coffee beans and spices and kneads dough, and the Ascent 1.4L Aer Disc Container emulsifies, foams, muddles and whips.
Classic household: Explorian, Aspire, Total Nutrition Centre and Professional Series
Our classic household jugs list the Explorian, Total Nutrition Centre, Aspire and Professional Series models plus the Vita-Prep 3, and every one says it is not compatible with the Ascent Series. The 2L Low Profile Container adds the Drink Machine Two-Speed to its list and fits easily under most kitchen cabinets, but its tamper is sold separately.
For single serves on a classic machine, the Personal Cup Adaptor (two 600ml cups with a blade base) suits all classic Vitamix models, but not the Ascent Series.
Commercial: Advance and classic commercial containers
Commercial jug pages list model names or numbers, and the lists differ from jug to jug. Worth knowing:
- The 1.4L Advance Container with one-piece lid fits the Bar Boss only with the short centring pad. The tall centring pad lets a Bar Boss or Drink Machine Advance switch to classic containers.
- Coloured Advance containers help reduce the risk of allergen cross-contact. The listing is for one container, not the three shown in its photo.
- The household classic jugs list the Vita-Prep 3, but our household 2L jug's page notes its 3-year warranty applies to Vitamix For Home units only, and points business owners to the commercial 2L Container with Wet Blade.
Not sure whether you need home or commercial gear? Our guide to commercial vs regular blenders explains the difference.

Blendtec jar compatibility
Blendtec jar pages tend to name broad groups, such as all home blenders, rather than single models. Three things to watch:
-
Home jars: the WildSide+ and FourSide For Home jars list all Blendtec consumer (home) blenders and carry a 3-year warranty for household use only. They can be used commercially, but the warranty would be void.
-
Commercial jars: the WildSide Ultra jars list all Blendtec blenders, and the commercial jars we stock each state a 1-year warranty.
-
Exceptions: the Twister Jar Kit fits all Blendtec models except the Stealth 895NBS Nitro 2.0, which is sold as a motor base only (see the FAQ below).
The BAR Blender comes with a WildSide+ jar and cone lid. The CHEF Blender comes with an Ultra XL jar (110 oz, approximately 3.25 L, total capacity) and a tamper; for a spare Ultra XL jar, ask us.
Blendtec jar compatibility table
Lids are simpler. The Vented Gripper Lid, Soft Lid and Hard Lid each fit both WildSide+ and FourSide jars, and the Soft and Hard lids are for jars used inside a sound enclosure.
Four checks before you order a spare blender jug
-
Match the tamper to the jug. The tall 2L tamper isn't for low-profile containers, and the low-profile tamper suits only 2L low-profile, 1.4L Ascent and 1.2L S30 containers. The mini tamper is made for 0.9L and 1.4L containers, while Ascent 1.4L containers come with a low-profile tamper.
-
"No lid, no blade" means the bare jug. Our bare 1.4L Advance, 1.4L commercial and 2L commercial jugs need a blade assembly and lid fitted, and the bare 1.4L commercial jug doesn't include a retainer nut. Check the model numbers on each page, too.
-
Keep a separate jug for grains. Our Ascent 2L and 1.4L Wet Blade container pages note that hard grains can etch the inside of a container over time.
-
Only one part worn? You may not need a whole jug. Vitamix blade assemblies, lids and tampers are in our Vitamix range, and Blendtec lids are in our Blendtec range.
Frequently asked questions
Will a classic Vitamix container fit an Ascent blender?
No. Our classic household 2L, 1.4L and 0.9L jug pages all say they are not compatible with the Ascent Series, and Ascent containers can be used only with Ascent Series blenders. Choose the family that matches your base.
What does SELF-DETECT do?
An Ascent motor base recognises the size of the SELF-DETECT container fitted and adjusts its program settings automatically, so one machine can handle several batch sizes.
Is the 0.9L Advance container smaller than the 1.4L?
No. Its page says the two are identical in size and only the printed measurements differ; 0.9L is the recommended maximum blending capacity for some models. Each page lists different model numbers, so match yours before you order.
Can I use a home Blendtec jar in my café?
You can, but the For Home jar pages say the warranty would be void. For business use, the commercial WildSide Ultra jars list all Blendtec blenders and carry a 1-year warranty.
Which jar suits the Blendtec Stealth 895NBS Nitro 2.0?
It is sold as a motor base only, so the jar is a separate purchase. Its page recommends a WildSide jar and also lists the FourSide Jar, and the Twister Jar Kit is not compatible. Ask us and we'll help you choose.
